January 21, 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SURREY BC – Surrey Crime Prevention Society (SCPS) is pleased to announce Karen Reid Sidhu, Executive Director is the proud recipient of the Outstanding Canadian Award for 2021. The Outstanding Canadian Foundation honours outstanding leaders from Canadian communities for their exemplary work and their efforts in promoting diversity in Canada.

Karen, along with Anita Huberman, CEO with the Surrey Board of Trade, was one of 15 recipients in Canada to receive a 2021 Outstanding Canadian Award Medallion. The medallion was specially designed to show the red maple leaves depicting thirteen provinces and territories of Canada.

“I am truly honoured and humbled by this award and national recognition and want to acknowledge and congratulate all the outstanding recipients of this prestigious award,” said Karen Reid Sidhu, Executive Director with Surrey Crime Prevention Society. “Congratulations also to Surrey Board of Trade CEO, Anita Huberman. It’s absolutely amazing to see that BC’s only award recipients are from Surrey. To have two recipients of this award right here in the City of Surrey is exceptional. I must also take this opportunity to thank those who have supported me over the years, especially my outstanding team of dedicated staff and volunteers,” said Karen Reid Sidhu.

The Outstanding Canadian Awards is a program which originated in 2000 by a group of community leaders, to select and honour outstanding leaders, successful professionals, and volunteers from Canadian communities and visible minority groups, including the Indigenous community, for their exemplary work and efforts in promoting diversity in Canada. The 2021 award theme focused on community leaders who improved the Canadian way of life and promoted best measures to keep citizens safe.
